Glen Finglas

(Picture: Fi in Glen Finglas)

The sun was out to play on Saturday and we decided to go explore. We settled on a 22km hike through Glen Finglas reservoir only 30 min outside of Stirling. It took us a little over 5 hours to walk the route but we met only 6 other people during that time. We've done our share of hikes in Lake District in the past, but this was not comparable. No matter where you are in the lakes, despite the stunning views, you hardly ever get a sense of remoteness or isolation. From any of the tops you'll see villages, cars or other hikers. This, however, is Scotland. Wild country :-) Rough and remote. And gorgeous at that.

I think both Fi and I had our first proper moment of: "wow, we're actually living here". You can travel through places and get a feel of what they are like. But it's just not quite the same as living there. Living there and going out to be a part of it. You grow to own it.

It'll take us a while. The country is big and diverse. But I've got time. I'm not rushing off anywhere else in a hurry. Not just yet ;-)
